'Watch How You Watch...'

...by Boat

If you want to get 'up close and personal' with the most northerly resident population of bottlenose dolphins in the world, use only DSP accredited operators!  For more information on the Dolphin Space Programme or for help planning your trip, please go to the DSP website, www.dolphinspace.org.

That way you can be sure your interest in them will not adversely affect the animals themselves.  All DSP accredited operators adhere to an approved code of conduct which ensures minimal disturbance to the animals.

...by Land

There are many places along the Moray Firth which offer excellent opportunities for dolphin watching on land.

When watching from land it is important not to leave anything behind and take away only the best of memories.

As with all wildlife, there are no guarantees of a sighting, so finding out information from local sources beforehand can help you experience some of the best dolphin watching in Europe.

  • To find out how local organisations and people are helping to protect the Moray Firth Dolphins go to the Moray Firth Partnership website.
  • Click here for an interactive map of the area and the wildlife which can be seen.
  • For a guide on how to spot and record sightings, visit Friends of the Moray Firth Dolphins.

To watch the dolphins from land you can visit:

  • Dolphins & Seals of the Moray Firth Visitor Centre at North Kessock, Inverness or
  • the Whale & Dolphin Conservation Society's (WDCS) Wildlife Centre, located at Spey Bay.

More information is available from the local Tourist Information Centre, North Kessock, Inverness.  Please call 01463 731505.
