| 12 October 2004 A major demonstration project has been completed at Dunglass Island on the River Conon to improve spawning habitat for salmon and restore biodiversity in an old river channel. Scottish Natural Heritage Area officer, Simon Cohen, said the scheme has already seen considerable improvements. He added: "This demonstration project was the first of its kind in Scotland to create new salmon habitat in the lower reaches of the river. The restoration of the natural biodiversity is at the heart of modern conservation effort in Scotland." The £38,000 project is a joint initiative between, Conon District Salmon Fishery Board, Brahan Estates Scottish Natural Heritage, The Highland Council, Ross and Cromarty Enterprise and LEADER+. | |
