This week Tourism and Environment Forum members, VisitScotland teamed up with Wild Scotland to capitalise on the growing number of visitors interested in their natural environment, by launching a brand new Wildlife Passport and a comprehensive Wildlife Scotland brochure. The Tourism and Environment Forum worked closely with both organisations to help make the date a success.
VisitScotland’s new 84 page, full colour brochure details a fantastic selection of around 250 wildlife attractions throughout the country so visitors can make the most of the rich diversity a wildlife experience in Scotland can offer. High speed boat rides around the stunning west coast and guided safaris through some of the last great wilderness, are just a couple of treats on offer. With the highest density of golden eagles in Europe, half of the world’s grey seal population and three quarters of red squirrel population in Britain, there is no better place to be when it comes to providing the natural habitat suitable for these and many other impressive species.
Highlights of the brochure include a seasonal wildlife calendar with expert tips on when and where to see wildlife and recommendations at a glance, along with detailed information on what you can spot in the different areas of Scotland . In addition, readers can get the low down on VisitScotland’s six of the best - species that best represent the seasonal diversity and accessibility of Scotland ’s wildlife. Suggestions of beach, cliff top, island and forest walks are listed with insiders’ tips on what you should look out for. Copies of the Wildlife Scotland brochure including the wildlife passport are available by contacting VisitScotland’s National Booking and Information Line 0845 22 55 121 or by logging onto www.visitscotland.com/wildlife
The new Wildlife Passport has been developed by Wild Scotland - the National Association of Wildlife Operators - and includes discounts on a choice of easily accessible attractions, ranging from cliff top safaris over magnificent sea cliffs in the Scottish Borders, and wildlife cruises to the Treshnish Isles, to nature photography holidays in the Scottish Highlands. Each individual attraction and member included in the passport follows responsible policies set out by Wild Scotland and, by using their services, visitors will help safeguard Scotland’s wildlife and environment for the future. Valid until 2007, the passport hopes to encourage people to explore the incredible wildlife opportunities available to them throughout the different regions.
Alistair Gronbach, Head of UK & Ireland Marketing, VisitScotland said: “Scotland’s natural environment is extremely attractive to many exciting species such as the red squirrel, red deer , golden eagle, puffin, Atlantic salmon, osprey, and bottlenose dolphin. There is nothing more thrilling than a chance encounter with wildlife, with no guarantee how long it will last. Scotland’s natural environment combined with the committed expertise of Wild Scotland members, located throughout the country, means that visitors to Scotland have a better opportunity to spot exciting and unique wildlife here, than in any other part of the UK and ensures that Scotland truly is Europe’s leading wildlife destination.”
