A new range of promotional material, featuring the landscapes of Caithness, was launched at a special event in Thurso at the end of June. The full colour posters and postcards have been produced by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) to raise awareness of the different types of landscapes in the county. An accompanying Landscape schools activity pack prepared by the Highland Environmental Network (HEN) will also be available for all schools in Caithness.
The poster and postcards include quotes from local people on how they feel about their landscapes. At the Thurso event where the Caithness poster was unveiled by eight-year-old John Bain, a pupil of Dunbeath Primary School , Pat Buchanan, Chair of Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise also gave an emotive explanation of how important landscapes are to tourism across the Highlands and how they are a focus for the marketing of Scotland both at home and abroad.
SNH Area Manager in North Highland, Lesley Cranna, said: "We are very pleased to be launching this new range of material that will promote the Caithness landscapes which are an important part of our natural heritage. We have sought to reflect the relationship that people have with their landscape, by including the thoughts of four very different Caithness individuals. I hope people will be inspired by the material and perhaps even discover a corner of Caithness which is new to them. The posters and postcards are free and people can use them to promote Caithness to our visitors, or simply to brighten a wall with our amazing range of landscapes."
There is also a Sutherland landscape poster available which was launched previously. The posters and postcards will be available free from SNH in Golspie and Ullapool.
