Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Chief Executive, Campbell Gemmell launched the State of Scotland’s Environment report at the 'Change Tomorrow Today' seminar held in October.

Launching the report, Dr Gemmell highlighted evidence of some dramatic environmental changes that are affecting Scotland:

• a 1 degree C increase in average spring, summer and winter temperatures since 1961
• 60% increase in average winter rain in the north and west since 1961, and a 20% increase across the country as a whole
• Sea temperatures up by 1 degree over the past 20 years and
• a long term rise in sea levels - with Aberdeen up 0.66mm per year since 1862

SEPA’s analysis of trends in all issues covered in the publication show that climate change is the number one priority. Stark statistics from the report highlight how the impacts of climate change are already here in Scotland and affecting our daily lives.
