| 05 November 2007 Created by VisitScotland, the Scottish Thistle Awards – now in their 16th year – are widely recognised as the mark of excellence and professionalism across Scottish tourism; awarding businesses for their contribution to the country’s reputation as a first class visitor destination. This year, winners from each of the 10 categories were presented with their awards by celebrity impressionist and comedian Alistair McGowan, at the awards ceremony held in Edinburgh on 26th October. The Sustainable Tourism category, sponsored by Scottish Natural Heritage, recognises businesses that minimise their impact on Scotland's resources, while maximising business opportunities. Open to any businesses who can demonstrate excellence and leadership in sustainable tourism, businesses must show how their commitment to Scotland's environment and people guide their operations, growth and ambitions And the winner is…. Rabbie's Trail Burners, Edinburgh Rabbie’s Trail Burners operate only modern, fuel-efficient vehicles and by taking customers out of their own cars, estimate a 75% reduction in the equivalent carbon footprint. They employ a dedicated environmental coordinator and in the past 3 years, have reduced their own office waste by 50% and achieved an energy saving of 38%.
