ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Conferences can be very wasteful events. As part of our commitment to the environment, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre provided us with detailed accounts of the volume of waste generated at the conference.
PRE-CONFERENCE PLANNING
No delegate bags
Majority of communication by email/website
All paper/card used was from recycled sources
CATERING
Total Food Waste: 5.5kg
- Food coming into kitchen: 70kg excl packaging
- Food waste during preparation: 2kg
- Actual food sent out to exhibition hall: 60kg
(Average food waste per event = 30kg per event)
Actual Catering/Packaging Waste: 1kg.
- Total: 9kg (6kg returned to suppliers (re-use), 2 kg to LEEP recycling)
- Washable Cloth Napkins were instead of Paper Napkins
(Average catering packaging waste per event: 13.5 kg)
General Policy
- Local suppliers used where possible.
- All suppliers were made aware of Green Purchasing Policy.
- Free range chicken used
- Cardboard recycled by council collections once a week.
- Vegetable supplier uplifts cardboard to use again.

- Paper Recycling: 4kg
- Exhibition Cardboard Boxes: 1.5kg
- Plastic Cups: 0.9kg

Total Energy Usage for Conference: 396.80 kWh
(Average Energy Usage per event: 20,293 kWh per event )
Energy Usage/Delegate: 5.36 kWh per delegate
(Average Energy Usage per delegate = 23.97 kWh per delegate)
