Orkney Island Holidays
Orkney is a group of 70 islands just off the north - east tip of Scotland. Paul and Louise Hollinrake have lived in Orkney and run wildlife and other special interest holidays since 1986. Along with specialist knowledge of birds, archaeology, wildlife and history of the islands Paul and Louise are able to give visitors genuine insight into what it is like to live and work on Orkney. Orkney Island Holidays are unique in that they operate from the owners’ island farm, Furrowend, on Shapinsay, 'the Green Isle', in the heart of Orkney. Their company logo, the black guillemot or 'tystie' was chosen because, like them, this northern bird stays in Orkney all year round. |
This means that their knowledge and experience of Orkney is second to none. The Hollinrake's pride themselves on really 'knowing their stuff' and can provide more illuminating insights into life on Orkney. Paul is the RSPB Warden on Shapinsay where he manages the Mill Dam Wetland Reserve. Louise's speciality is the archaeology and history of Orkney. This 'Sense of Place' was highlighted in feedback from a very satisfied American client who said: "You've done a fantastic job of thoroughly yet subtly introducing us to the gentle wonder of Orkney. You've given us a fine feel for your world!" |

As part of their support of conservation groups which promote a better understanding of Orkney’s natural heritage, wildlife sightings are passed on to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Scottish Natural Heritage and the local Country wildlife recorder. These records are very helpful for conservation research. |
