Tourism and Environment Forum Activities

Working with Wildlife and Nature Tourism Businesses

Wildlife and nature is an important part of visitors' experiences in Scotland. A 2002 report indicated that as many as 16% of visitors to the Highlands was involved in wildlife-related activity during their holiday (more information) .

The Tourism and Environment Forum works closely with wildlife tourism businesses and organisations to raise the profile of this area of Scotland's tourism appeal.

This work started in 2001 with research and a conference to raise awareness. In November 2002, over 70 businesses met to discuss ways in which the private sector can move things forward.  In October 2003, Wild Scotland, Scotland's wildlife and nature tourism operators association, formed.

The following pages provide information about the process which led to the formation of Wild Scotland, from the research, through consultation to Wild Scotland itself.
